Underground Explosion Forces DSO Evacuation

Woodward is blocked off just north of Mack because of an electrical problem at Orchestra Hall.

Several manhole covers reportedly blew into the air around 8:30 Sunday morning after an underground explosion.

D-T-E Energy says an electrical cable failed. Crews are working to isolate the problem…and make repairs. No power outages have been reported because of the problem.

There are no reports of injuries caused by the explosion…but Orchestra Hall was evacuated as a precaution.

The Sphinx performance scheduled to take place at Orchestra Hall at 2 p.m. has been moved to Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. Organizers of the event say all tickets will be honored there. Additional tickets will also be available because of the size of Hill Auditorium.

Woodward remains closed between Selden and Parsons. There’s no word on when the road will re-open.
