A last-minute surge of donations helped the Salvation Army meet its goal of $8.2 million through its annual red kettle fundraising drive. In addition, the group raised about one million dollars' worth of in-kind donations, such as winter clothing and canned food for needy residents in southeast Michigan. WDET's Pat Batcheller spoke with Major Curtiss Hartley, who explained how the Salvation Army uses its donations to help the poor. Click on the audio link above to hear the conversation.
