Hot on the heels of their sold – out Michigan Theater show, the Mars Volta return to the Fillmore Detroit for a night of challenging avant rock. After breaking up their former band At the Drive In, founders Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López wanted a band that could better express their interests – hence the formation of The Mars Volta. Their free jazz approach to rock and roll is refreshing in these staid musical times, and the band is well known for their wildly improvised live shows
