Wayne State University's Aviation Career Education, or ACE Academy, teaches Detroit area kids how to fly. The week-long summer camp is aimed at getting eighth, ninth, and tenth graders interested in careers in aviation. The highlight of the week is flight day. WDET's Simone Landon has more from Detroit's Coleman A. Young airport.
Quicken Loans final announcement on their move downtown made waves for not being as far-reaching as the company previously stated. Crain's reporter Tom Henderson blogged about the company's very generous state and city tax credits for the move. We'll talk with him this afternoon. Also, in this week's Crain's Detroit Business, Amy Lane reports on two recent proposals by the state Democratic party that are being labeled as anti-business by groups such as the Michigan Business Association.
Recently, the U.S. and Canadian Chambers of Commerce released a report forecasting the huge upturn in border traffic after the recession ebbs. We'll get their suggestions on how to manage the Detroit/ Windsor border crossing.
U.S. Representative Gary Peters plans to introduce legislation demanding a ‘pay-as-you-go' system for the national budget, similar to the one Michigan is currently operating under. We'll talk to Rep. Peters about the idea.
Also, Wayne State Professor Arlene Weisz has written a new guide for teens and parents on how to avoid the pitfalls of abusive relationships. We'll talk with her this afternoon.
