Medical Marijuana, Ohio takes over Toldeo and March Madness Madness Madness - Link to Audio

Monday, April 6, 2009

Hopeful smokers are lining up by the busload- literally- to take advantage of Michigan’s new medical marijuana laws as the state began issuing ID cards under new laws governing the drug’s new medically legal status.  We’ll talk with James McCurtis, spokesman for the Michigan Dept. of Community Health- they’re organizing the credentials.  Plus- David Fox of the Michigan State Medical Society will weigh in.

On the other end of the spectrum, The Corinthian Baptist Church is hosting the fourth annual Citywide Revival & Faith-Based Substance Abuse Conference today through Thursday.  Reverend Audry Turner and Reverend Dr. Oscar King III will join us.

What’s the future of American labor in the face of the continuing decline in industrial production? Wilma Liebman of the National Labor Relations Board will lead a forum on “Resuscitating and Revitalizing American Labor Law Policy: A Constructive Dialogue on Areas of Agreement” today at the Wayne State Law School.

National medical researchers will have access to a huge database of over 3 million blood samples, thanks to The Michigan Neonatal BioTrust, a new business in Detroit’s Techtown neighborhood.  Tom Henderson of Crain’s Detroit Business will fill us in.

Women today make up 46% of the labor pool, but over 4 in 5 jobs lost during this recession belonged to men.  Are we looking at the tipping point in American employment?  We’ll talk about womens’ changing role in the workplace with Leanne Bowen, President of the Detroit chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women & Anne Doyle- Communications, media and leadership consultant.

Recently professional woman of Jewish and African-American background came together to talk.  WDET’s Rob St. Mary will show how it’s about more than simple dialogue between cultures.

It’s a small consolation, but Michigan’s cities aren’t the only places the recession is hitting hard.  Officials in Ohio are considering a state takeover of Toledo.  We’ll talk with Tom Troy of the Toledo Blade.

All that, plus we'll get the two sides on tonight's big game:  In the Tarheels' corner- Mark Packer is host of Prime Time with Pacman on WFNZ in Charlotte, NC.  And for the Spartans- Shannon Shelton, Michigan State Reporter for the Free Press.
