Hamtramck Human Rights - Link to Audio
Wednesday, July 16, 2008
In June, Hamtramck joined a handful of cities around the country to adopt a human rights ordinance, "to ban discrimination in areas such as housing, employment and city contracts. It also includes protections for sexual orientation and gender identity or expression." Now, a new ballot initiative started by Jay McNeely a resident of Ypsilanti, with support from Gary Glenn, President of the American Family Association of Michigan aims to overturn the ordinance. We'll talk this morning with Greg Kirchner, a Hamtramck resident who supports overturning the ordinance. Also, Richard Sparks, Co-Chair of Hamtramck United Against Discrimination and Scott Klein from the Hamtramck City Council.
