Witness List for Beatty Trial Exceeds 80
Nov 26, 2008
General - Link to Audio

The lists read like a who’s who of Detroit’s political and legal elite. The prosecution may call city officials…including Police Chief James Barren, City Clerk Janice Winfrey, and former Police Chief Ella Bully Cummings.

The prosecution also lists several members of Kwame Kilpatrick’s inner circle as potential witnesses. They include his father Bernard Kilpatrick, his mother Congresswomen Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, and the former mayor’s friend and controversial city contractor Bobby Ferguson. The former mayor himself tops the list.

Lawyers for Christine Beatty want to call many of the same witnesses with some notable additions. Defense lawyers list every member of the Detroit City Council…including current Mayor Ken Cockrel Junior. They also have the entire prosecution team…including Kym Worthy…listed as potential witnesses.

Former mayoral chief of staff Christine Beatty is changed with multiple felonies stemming from her conduct during a whistleblowers trial last year. Prosecutors allege that she lied under oath about an affair she had with the now jailed former mayor.  Jury selection is set to begin January 5th. I’m Noah Ovshinsky, WDET News.
