Michigan lawmakers voted to move the primary from early February to mid-January…to gain more attention from presidential candidates.
But a state judge ruled the primary invalid…because it used public money to compile a private list of voters for political parties.
Now a divided state Supreme Court has reversed that decision…meaning the primary will proceed - probably.
Michigan Republicans plan to hold a primary…even though national party officials say they will strip the state of half its convention delegates as a penalty.
National Democrats say they will strip ALL delegates from gained in any Michigan primary…and the state party may hold a caucus instead.
Officials in New Hampshire have delayed choosing their primary date until they saw what happened in Michigan…because their law requires that they hold the first primary in the nation.
