State Lawmaker Calls On Governor Granholm To Remove Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick
May 9, 2008

The state constitution gives the Governor the power to remove city officials for “gross neglect of duty or corrupt conduct in office.” Republican Representative David Law has introduced a resolution calling on Jennifer Granholm to exercise that power. Law says the text messaging scandal has been bad for the entire region.

“Every day I’ve got to open my newspaper…read about it…people turn the TV on…they read about it. What business owner from out of state is gonna come to Southeast Michigan or Michigan with this kind of stuff going on.”

A spokesperson for Mayor Kilpatrick called on Law to focus on issues that more directly impact Michigan residents such as foreclosure rates and high gas prices. He dismissed the resolution…calling it a high-priced opinion paper.  I’m Noah Ovshinsky, WDET News.
