Obama Considers Plan To Seat Michigan Delegates
May 8, 2008
General

Some top Democratic Party officials in Michigan say they have proposed a way to seat all of the delegates elected in the state primary.

WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter has more…

The Democratic National Committee stripped Michigan of all delegates…after state officials moved the primary to an earlier-than-usual date.

All major Democratic presidential hopefuls refused to campaign in Michigan…though Hillary Clinton kept her name on the ballot when others removed theirs.

Not surprisingly…Clinton won a majority of votes…though about 40 percent of voters in the primary chose to vote “uncommitted”…rather than for the New York Senator.

As Barack Obama has maintained his lead among pledged delegates…the Clinton campaign has repeatedly called for the national party to include those chosen in Michigan.

Now top Democrats in Michigan – most of whom supported Clinton for president – say they have reached a compromise that would give Clinton 69 delegates and Obama 59.

A spokesperson for Obama says the Illinois Senator agrees the original primary results were not fair…since he never had the chance to campaign in the state.

The spokesperson adds that they have not agreed to any compromise regarding Michigan delegates…but are still discussing the proposal.
