Michigan Jobless Rate Rises In February
Mar 26, 2008
Automotive & Business

Michigan’s jobless rate is on the rise.  February’s unemployment rate moved to 7.2%.  That's a tenth of a percentage point increase since January.  Rick Waclawek is the Director of the state’s Department of Labor and Economic Growth.  He says the auto industry is to blame for the state's economic situation.

“The fact that the Big Three in particular are having a substantial change in the economic conditions which they’re working under…has pretty much been the case for the last couple years.  That keeps our unemployment rate at a higher level than the national average.”

The national unemployment rate stands at four-point-eight percent.  Michigan has the highest jobless rate in the nation.
