Macomb Co. to Start Drafting Charter
Dec 3, 2008
General

Macomb County starts the process of creating a new charter Thursday.

The 26 member commission will officially establish itself this week. Starting around Christmas, the group will have six months to write a new governing document for Macomb County.

Jake Femminineo, Junior is a member of the commission. He’s found some common goals in his discussions with other commissioners.

“We want to create a strong county executive, that’s number one. I think number two is reducing the number of county commissioners. There’s 26 of them right now.”

But Femminineo says he sees the overarching goal is to reduce the cost and size of Macomb County government.

He says if the charter drafting and vote by county residents goes according to his schedule, a county executive could be sworn-in by 2011.
