Governor Celebrates Anniversary Of Focus: Hope
Mar 26, 2008
Metro Desk - Link to Audio

Focus: HOPE emerged from the ashes of the 1967 riots. Founded by Eleanor Josaitis and Father Bill Cunningham…the organization has provided job training…education…and food for hundreds of thousands of people. The group also develops community arts programs for elementary and high school students. Governor Jennifer Granholm says Focus: HOPE sets a good example at a time when the state is struggling.

“Our economy has been the poster child of the global shift in manufacturing jobs and the need to reinvent ourselves and that’s exactly what Focus: HOPE has been giving to people for 40 years…is the opportunity for people to have dignity and to be able to enhance one owns skills…to reinvent one’s self…to have a good life.”

The group’s co-founder… Eleanor Josaitis…agrees. She says adapting to new technology and other trends in manufacturing…has been key to Focus: HOPE’s success. I’m Noah Ovshinsky, WDET News.
