Goodman Discusses Report With City Council
May 6, 2008
Metro Desk - Link to Audio

In his 35-page report….attorney Bill Goodman concluded that Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick violated at least two provisions of the city charter in his handling of the whistleblowers’ lawsuit. Goodman says the Mayor intentionally misled Council and used the city’s law department to protect his own interests.  The City Council is currently considering the recommendations laid out in that report.  President Ken Cockrel Junior says one in particular may prove problematic.

“…there is some concern about forfeiture…how realistic that is as well as the fact that there is concern that if Council were to go that route….it could result in a new trial which could tie up a lot of time and a lot of money for an extended period. But that’s not completely off the table.”

Cockrel says Council could also vote to censure the Mayor or ask  Governor Jennifer Granholm to remove Kilpatrick.  Deputy Mayor Anthony Adams criticized Goodman’s report…calling it politically motivated. He says it’s filled with legal and factual errors…though he won’t elaborate on what those errors are.   I’m Noah Ovshinsky, WDET News.
