GM Retiree: Boycott Alabama
Dec 12, 2008
Automotive & Business

A General Motors retiree says Americans should “Boycott Alabama Now”.

Joe Babiasz is the creator of the website www.boycottalabamanow.com. He says it was created because of his frustration at Alabama Senator Richard Shelby.

Babiasz says Shelby has been the most vocal critic of the loans to the domestic auto industry… and he says the Senator’s view is only based on his home state’s interests and misinformation about the quality of US cars.

“He is a U-S Senator, not a state senator... I help to pay his salary. His vote effects me… and when it effects me, when his vote is wrong or based on non-truths or based on not being informed then I am going to do my best to advise Mr. Shelby to do your homework before you open your mouth.”

Babiasz says he supports the people of Alabama but not their Senator. He wants people to understand the website is a political statement… one that has garnered about 55,000 visitors in less than a week. He says the reaction has been bigger than he thought… so much so that Shelby issued a statement about the website.

Babiasz says his goal is to get Shelby to visit the headquarters and plants of the domestic auto companies, drive a 2009 model car and then reconsider his previous criticisms based on first-hand knowledge.
