Five Picks Doom Lions in Seattle

November 8, 2009           by Pat Batcheller

The Lions lost their 16th consecutive road game in Seattle Sunday.  As WDET’s Pat Batcheller reports, it was a tough day for Detroit’s rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford.

This was the first head-to-head meeting between Stafford and Seahawks rookie linebacker Aaron Curry, who—in the minds of many Lions fans—should have been the top pick in this year’s draft.  Stafford got the upper hand early in this game…throwing two touchdown passes… giving Detroit a 17-to-nothing lead at the end of the first quarter.   But Seattle took control of the game from then on…scoring 25 unanswered points…and intercepting Stafford five times.  The last pickoff was returned for a touchdown with just seconds left on the clock…giving Seattle a 32-20 victory.  Despite his struggles, Stafford arguably made more of an impact on the game than Aaron Curry…who sat out part of the second half with an injury…and made four tackles—no quarterback sacks.  But in the end, it was Curry who was on the winning side.
