Fires Down Over Halloween in Detroit

The Detroit Fire Department says the number of fires over the three day Angels’ Night weekend was down from last year.

Based on the figures released Monday, the total number of fires was down 12% to 119. In 2008, there were 136 fires over the same period.

     Detroit Mayor Dave Bing.

“This is a small but substantial victory for the residents and employees and residents of the City of Detroit. I want the momentum, that began this past weekend, and I hope it will continue the rest of the year and to make Angels’ Night every night.”

Bing says there were fewer volunteers than last year’s effort… about 30,000 in all but he says those who did take part were excited and extra vigilant.
