The FBI is working with Canadian authorities in the search for two men after yesterday’s raids in Detroit and Dearborn.
This week’s raids are in connection to a federal criminal complaint against eleven-members of a group called the “Ummah” or “the Brotherhood”. The Detroit members are being investigated for numerous crimes including mail fraud, receiving and selling stolen goods and providing firearms to a convicted felon.
Terrance Berg is US Attorney in Detroit. He says although federal sources have provided proof of heated anti-government rhetoric coming from the Ummah’s mosque… no terrorism charges have been filed in the case.
“I wanted to caution both the media and public not to draw undue connections between the actions of this particular group, which is a specific brand of radical ideology, and draw connections between that group and the faith of Muslims in general.”
Right now, the FBI is searching for two men. They are 30-year-old Yassir Ali Khan of Warren and 33-year-old Mohammad Philistine. The two have ties to Canada.
A third suspect, 30-year-old Mujahid Carswell of Detroit was arrested by Canadian authorities Thursday afternoon.
