Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Charged With Multiple Felonies
Mar 24, 2008
Metro Desk - Link to Audio

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty face a total of 12 charges including perjury…obstruction of justice…and misconduct in office. They were filed after an almost two month investigation by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. Her office is looking into allegations that Kilpatrick and Beatty gave false testimony during last summer’s whistleblowers trial. Worthy says her case is not about sex.

“Our investigation has clearly shown that public dollars were used…people’s lives were ruined…the justice system was severely mocked…and the public trust trampled on. This case is about as far from being a private matter as one can get.”

Despite the charges…Mayor Kilpatrick says he’ll carry on with city business. He says he’s confident he’ll be exonerated once his case is heard in court. I’m Noah Ovshinsky, WDET News.
