Detroit City Council Looks at the Loyality of Outside Lawyers
Apr 29, 2008
Metro Desk

The Detroit City Council says it wants final say in the hiring of all outside legal advice.

The resolution put forth by Councilwoman Sheila Cockrel places restrictions on how special council can be hired.

She says the measure is related to Mayer Morganroth who is currently working one case for the City of Detroit and another one against the city.

“We don’t want any other lawyers who have mixed allegiances.”

Morganroth is currently representing Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s former chief of staff, Christine Beatty in her perjury case.

Cockrel’s resolution passed unanimously. A public hearing on the measure will take place next week. She says she expects it to pass in the next two weeks.
