Councilwoman Collins Gets FBI Visit
Jul 8, 2008
General

A Detroit City Councilwoman says the FBI came to her house early this Tuesday morning.

Councilwoman Barbara Rose Collins says two investigators arrived just after 8:00am Tuesday.

She says the pair quizzed her about connections related to the Synagro sludge contract. Collins says she was told she is a subject but not a suspect or target of the investigation based on what was overheard on a Federal wiretap between a former city employee and an outside person.

“One person told another person that "Barbara Rose is very mad at you because you haven’t given her anything." And the second person said "I’ve taken care of her, she’s alright now."”

Collins says she plans to ask the FBI for the right to confront the two who intimated that she had taken a bribe… something the councilwoman denies.

She says she was also told the investigation should be wrapped up by fall.

The FBI probe is said to be related to possible bribery to get the Detroit City Council to approve an almost $50 million contract last fall.
