Coleman Young Municipal Center To Reopen
Jul 8, 2008
General

Officials in Detroit say the Coleman Young Municipal Center – Detroit’s City Hall – will re-open for business Wednesday.

WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter has more…

The Coleman Young Municipal Center has been closed for the past two weeks…after a fire occurred in the building.

Lightning struck a riverfront water pumping station which caused a power surge that disabled transformers in the building and created a fire in the basement.

No injuries were reported.

City and county operations usually performed in the building…everything from obtaining permits to City Council meetings…had been temporarily transferred to other buildings like Cobo Center.

Mayoral spokesperson Denise Tolliver says employees can now return to work…since  environmental and fire inspections have been completed.
