Christine Beatty Pleads Guilty
Dec 1, 2008
General - Link to Audio

Christine Beatty’s guilty plea ends a saga that has gripped Detroit for more than a year. She and her former boss…ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick acknowledged lying under oath during a whistleblowers trial last year. Under the deal…Beatty will serve 120 days in jail and pay a fine of 100-thousand dollars. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says she hopes the punishment sends an important message to the holders of public office.

“When you hold a potion of public trust. It’s a gift. It’s a gift, it’s not something you go and take from the public trough and you try and take everything you can get from the public. That’s not what we’re here for.”

Beatty’s sentencing is set for January 5th. Kilpatrick has already begun his four month jail sentence. I’m Noah Ovshinsky, WDET News.
