January 21, 2010         by Pat Batcheller

Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera talked about his battle against alcoholism Thursday.  His problem came to light at the end of last season, when he came home after a night of drinking and got into a fight with his wife.  Cabrera says he hasn’t had a drink since then…and has been getting treatment in the off-season.  Tigers General Manager Dave Dombrowksi says he’s pleased with Cabrera’s progress so far.

“We’ll continue to stay on top of it because, anybody that knows, and this isn’t the first time I’ve dealt with people that have had a problem, it’s something that he has to deal with daily…and he’s prepared to do that.”

Cabrera says he feels better and is looking forward to the 2010 season.
