50th Day Brings Bing to Council
Jun 30, 2009
Metro Desk

To commemorate 50 days in office, Mayor Dave Bing made his first presentation before the Detroit City Council.

Bing appeared before Council on Tuesday. He highlighted several deals in the works, including a new contract for the Joe Louis Arena and the new deal for Cobo Center. On Cobo, Bing says the city council should not vote on the deal. Instead, he says it should let the legislation take effect August first without response.

Bing also offered his thoughts for a working relationship with council.

“I’m not this autocrat where I think that everything that I do or say is final. I believe in team work. I want to listen to you. You’re part of the team, I’m part of your team and collectively we’ll do what we can to represent the citizens of Detroit.”

The mayor says efforts are being made to combat blight and improve effiency and response from his office. Bing says he will continue to focus on jobs, public safety and education in Detroit with an eye towards making the city friendly to business.

Bing says he’ll give another update on his efforts in another 50 days.
